PEGGY & LADY
Well, Peggy and Lady were so enamored with their new home that they took off like a flash the moment they arrived, running amok on the fabulous, lush, green lawn. Their new "Mom", Vicki, just followed their darling waddles, while their new "Dad", Ralph, laughed a lot, happy that the "girls" had made themselves so instantly at home. Extra pics, focusing more on the "girls" themselves, will be coming soon, but we really wanted to share these so you could see the wonderful people Peggy and Lady now have for their very own, and what a terrific place they now call home!
Not only do Peggy and Lady have this great new family and home right here close to Missoula, Montana, but they have a new basset brother named Dudley who's no longer sad and lonely!! We could write about this perfect adoption till the cows come home, but instead we'll share with you these pics which say a million words. Vicki and Ralph, your family is now complete. Bless you both for opening up you hearts and home to these bassets who spent much too much time here in rescue . . . but we all know now it was worth the wait!! We love you all.
BASSIE
This is one of those great adoptions that we just adore! The Irwins drove all the way over from Seattle, Washington just to take our dear Bassie girl back to her new "Forever Home". It was love at first sight -- Bassie just knew it was meant to be, hopped directly into their car and away they went! I must say a grateful "Thank you!" to Helena Poist and all the transporters who helped save all the bassets that came in with Bassie, and a great, big "Thank you!" to Chris and the crew in Libby, Montana for being a terrific group of rescuers!
DAISY MAE
Daisy Mae, age three, was adopted from a Craigslist ad. Very soon thereafter, to no one's surprise, she ended up in a local shelter. Thank goodness the shelter called me and we brought her here. After her arrival, things moved so fast, Daisy never even had a chance to appear on our "Available" page! With help from our wonderful volunteers, Janine Hunt, Paddy, and Roan, Daisy quickly found her way to the Northeast corner of Oregon. There she now has a loving, new home with Jack and Debbie, and a family of other dogs to romp and play with. We're all just tickled pink for this very fortunate houndie. Just so you all know, Daisy Mae is very healthy: she had a cyst surgically removed; has all her vaccinations; and her teeth are all sparkly-white after a dental exam. Her new family will be pleased to find that Daisy rides nicely in the car and has good house manners, including knowledgeable use of doggie doors. She's also exceptionally friendly, BUT -- until she gets used to her new home, she will guard her food bowl!
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Jack and Debbie, living in heartworm-prone Oregon, thought Daisy Mae should be tested for the terrible, parasitic disease, "just in case". Frighteningly, despite having shown no symptoms, she was positive! They are now treating Daisy with their veterinarian's protocol that includes the use of medicinal herbs and a monthly pill. More and more vets are avoiding the anti-heartworm injections, which contain strong, harmful chemicals, and the subsequent four to six weeks of confinement, instead using herbs and the monthly Heartguard pill.
It is apparent that heartworm is very slowly invading Montana. Therefore, we are now checking all rescues of unknown origin for this terrible ailment. Leslie Ames, the President of Basset Rescue of Montana, has been in contact with two providers of herbal treatments, and is now in the process of giving these treatments to our one heartworm-positive rescue, Dudley Do-Right.
BOO RADLEY
Boo Radley, or "Boo", or sometimes "Bo" came to Montana with four other bassets, and was very lucky to be almost immediately chosen by the Moore family, right here in Missoula, Montana. Boo is a very unusual, blue-tinged boy who is much younger than we were originally told. He now has a terrific family, plus his very own girlfriend, basset Josie (Wails?). On top of all that, when Josie gets tired of playing in their huge, half acre, fenced yard, the Moore's two boys are always eager to romp around with him! Heartfelt "Thank you's!" go out to the Moore family for opening up their hearts and home to a very special, rescued hound.
HOGAN FOREVER
Here is Jason, choosing his houndie, Hogan since he had his choice of these fabulous bassets coming up form the south. Pic shows us receiving the dogs from Stephanie, who drove them from the Bitterroot on the last leg of their very long transport. Our friend and accomplice in "crime", Chris Boothman, is holding the leashes, while children from a nearby hotel are playing with the new arrivals, who were excited and ready for some fun!
Jason and Hogan were "buddies" right from the start ! Hogan has a fabulous yard; not only does he have lots of lawn to romp about, but he also has a covered terrace with his own lounge or chair, a doggie bed, AND a doggie door into the garage with yet another doggie bed and feed bowls . . . not to mention all the attention Hogan attracts sashaying down Missoula's streets with his new buddy. Not bad, Hogan! "Thank you", Jason, for opening up your lovely home and heart to this rescued hound dog.
BESSIE FOREVER
Bessie our latest rescue girl, had a home just waiting for her, since Janine and Everett were waiting for just such a calm, quiet, loving, obedient little girl to add to their home. She now has two, wonderful basset "brothers" as as lifetime friends to play with. We're so grateful to all the concerned doggie folks out there who had a hand in keeping her safe, warm and loved until her new family could come bring her home!
FRECKLES FOREVER
Tiffani and Michael, well versed in the art of basset care, bestowed a wonderful New Year's gift on Basset Rescue of Montana: they adopted Freckles! His new family just adores him. All the children get to sleep with Freckles and his Lab mix "brother", Java, who's become Freckle's "bestest" playmate. Bless this family for opening their home and hearts to a rescue basset!
Here's my living room at Basset Rescue of Montana, which doubles as my "doggie" room, where we all play and rest. To see who's who, please click on the thumbnail.
MOLLY FOREVER
When Dee Dee , our foster mom, saw petite Molly coming from the south, she immediately thought how close she looked to Angie, another darling basset/beagle she'd adopted years back. So she asked to foster Molly. Then surprise, surprise -- she decided to adopt her. Dee Dee is our favorite foster failure for 2009!! Now Molly has the life she deserves: living with other bassets; eating the best foods; sleeping on the best beds; and best of all, being loved all the time. Thank you, Dee Dee, for your caring heart and loving soul.
C. J. FOREVER
C. J. came from a home out of state that could no longer keep him. Being such a sweet, young, healthy guy, our Adopters (from years back) from Helena, Montana just couldn't resist. Boulder, the first basset they adopted, now has a playmate, And Janine now has two "four-leggers" to walk and play with . . . a fun, frolicking household, indeed! As always, we're so very grateful for such caring people who take under their angel's wings these relinquished and abused hounds, and give them love forever. Thank you so much, Janine & Everett! I know Boulder and C. J. thank you every minute of each day for all your love and attention.
DOZER AND LACY FOREVER
After more than a year and a half, Dozer the basset and his lifelong, German shepherd friend Lacy, have found their dream "forever home" in Idaho. It's a good story that I hope warms your heart: Dozer and Lacy's owner passed away. The family did not want to put the bonded pair down, but wished to transport them to a shelter anywhere in Montana that might be able to find them a home. The family knew it would be tough to re-home such a tightly bonded pair.
First, the dogs ended up way down in Dillon, in southwestern Montana. Susie, the Dillon shelter manager, called me immediately. She drove way up north to Frenchtown to meet me here at Basset Rescue of Montana. As blessings would have it, we just passed an addendum to allow one non-aggressive German shepherd into our shelter per year. After all, if it weren't for my Partner, my German shepherd of over thirteen years, there'd be no basset rescue shelter. So in his honor and loving memory, we took Lacy in with Dozer.
Then it happened! Call it a miracle, or fate, or whatever you want: Margaret, who'd recently lost a pair just like Dozer and Lacy, saw them while web surfing. She couldn't believe it when she saw Dozer and Lacy on her computer. She can't even remember what she was doing, or perhaps searching for, when she landed on our site and saw these two! It's beyond our reckoning.
Sometimes life serves up a remedy to mend broken hearts, and Margaret received a platter full! I have to admit, I've become very attached to these two, and I have not a doubt in the world that they are now in the hands of a living angel! Thank you, Margaret.
DROOPY FOREVER
Droopy now has his own family in Missoula, Montana. Cindy, along with Huckleberry the Rottweiler and one granddaughter who visits often, have become very attached to Droopy. Cindy, like many of us, became a foster failure and is very proud of it!! When spring and summer come around, it'll be very interesting to watch how Droopy handles his back yard garden, as Cindy is a judge for the Missoula County Fair's Iris competition! Cindy also lives next door to one of our past board members who's a current foster home, so we'll all get to visit Droopy often. Many heartfelt "thank you's" go out to Cindy for being so compassionate and caring.
LUCYLULU
Over the holidays, Lucylulu became the pride and joy of the Dutton family in Belgrade, Montana. Bozeman shelter volunteer Ben was kind enough to assist us with the Dutton's home check, and all passed with flying, brilliant, holiday colors! Their children take turns snuggling with Lucy at night; Lucy sports a new, pink coat to wear on her walks; and she's become the highlight of the season around there! Many "thank you's" to Cheryl and Scottie, who fostered Lucylulu, and Ben who helped Lucylulu get the best home ever! Pictured here is Lucylulu on the "royal" chair that became her throne the moment she entered her new home. And underneath that throw, the chair's a vivid royal purple, as befits a queen of Lucy's stature. Boy, life just doesn't get any better than that for a hound. It was instant love, with every moment cherished between this basset and her new wonderful, secure "forever" family.
JENNIEMAE
Well, just as we suspected, Jennimae's stay at our shelter didn't last long. Her "Foster" mom, Cookie, became a foster failure . . . again! And we can't tell you how happy we are that she is. Many, many thanks to Cookie, Anita Gilberston and Sandy Gaston, for providing such a happy ending for Jenniemae.
NORA
Nora is the beauty queen, sleeping with her new momma smiling over her. It just goes to show ya how relaxed and happy this relinquished basset is nowadays in her new "Forever Home" in Denver, Colorado. Many thanks go to Carrie, who drove Nora down to Christine at Christmas time. Transporters are worth their weight in gold and we are so very grateful for Carrie offering Nora a lift. Word of mouth is very helpful in the adoption process, and we also thank Cookie who was so enamored by Nora that she kept telling Christine that Nora would be a great companion for her household and the "menz" -- two bassets already in Christine's home. And so the storybook adoption of Nora took place. AGAIN, MANY, MANY "THANK YOU'S" TO THESE THREE WONDERFUL LADIES FOR HELPING GIVE NORA HER FOREVER HOME.
SOPHIE #2
Sophie (#2) received an early, fabulous Christmas present when the Brown family of Ramsay, Montana became foster failures with this loving, vibrant, and easy going girl. The whole family just loves her to pieces, and Sophie is so happy with them. We all extend hearty "thank you's" to this nearby family for opening up their home and helping Basset Rescue of Montana.
NORRIS
Not only did his new family fall in love with Norris , but Libby, their lonely Basset back home, will now have a friend. The pair will get to sleep in bed with their slaves, romp around a newly fenced yard, and be loved and cherished beyond measure. And to add the icing to this wonderful cake, they also want to foster other homeless hounds! There are just not enough thank you's to express how grateful we all are to this family.
ERWIN
Well, Erwin finally got his second chance for a home that will cherish him forever. Hank and Christine, who live locally, have raised bassets before, so they know what they're getting in to! As you can see, Erwin has rolled over for his belly rubs. Many heartfelt "thank you's" go out to this lovely couple for all the support they've offered for all these homeless hounds.
MAX AND SWEETS
Max and Sweets are the apple of Calgary's eye! They've been fostered there, and now the home has become a foster failure . . . we just love foster failures. Thank you to all our friends in Calgary who participated in finding this loving pair a permanent home.
RUBY
After waiting for over a year, Ruby now has the home of a lifetime! Paulette and Chuck, of Helena, Montana, adopted from us three years ago, so we know what a terrific home Ruby's getting. Her age (eight years old) and demeanor are just what they were looking for to add to their wonderful family. And thank goodness, Ruby will have no poor cats to torment! Thank you, Paulette and Chuck! Check out Ruby's new "sisters" in this video . . .
To see a brief clip of Ruby with her new family (Ruby's the black and white basset on the left), click here:
SHADY LADY
Shady Lady has been adopted by her Foster Mom, Melanie and Melanie's daughter, Sara, in Helena, Montana. We love our foster failures! It's so wonderful that Shady Lady finally has a home of her own, and even another pooch to play with. Thank you, Mel, for opening your heart and home to an abandoned basset!
ADDIE formerly "Melody"
Melody, renamed Addie by her foster mom, Angel Hinson in Missoula, now has her own home and new playmate to boot! Judith Kilgore and daughter Allison are rescuers down to the bone! They loved their first basset so much that, now that he is ATB, they wanted to save another.
After two months, I finally got to visit Addie with her new family and take a picture. I quickly discovered that Oh, Boy! Does she ever love it there! I hear tell that they all curl up at night and sleep together. Addie is one lucky girl! Thank you to the Kilgores for the love in their hearts. It sure shows!
On a final note: Addie was originally brought to me by the Berrymans from Great Falls, Montana, and I have a big "Thank you!" to them, and of course to foster mom Angel.
WANDA
Now at the Rainbow Bridge
Wanda was a precious angel in a "doggie" body. Her mission was to relieve the anxiety of the elderly residents of the Hillside Place extented care facility, calm them, and share her love with them. Reaching a ripe old age herself, she finally retired from her avocation to spend her final years sharing her love with Ashley and Howie of Spokane, WA. Wanda had an extraordinary way about her, and she easily formed spiritual connections with those of us who knew her. In fact, there were times when she truly saved our psyches, she was so gentle, loving and helpful to us humans. I will miss her dearly, as will everyone who ever met her, and she will always remain near to us in our hearts.
TRINKET, formerly "Daisy"
Now at the Rainbow Bridge; Trinket was taken quickly by cancer, and did not suffer.
Caleb, Angel, big Gus, & Quimbee are Trinket's new family, who're located right down the road from the shelter. Everyone gets along beautifully, and Trinket (on the far right in the photo) is in seventh heaven with all the new love and care. A big "Thank you!" to a genuinely extraordinary family.
MONTY,(formerly "Cosmo")
It is a very special day indeed when we have Canadian folks travel all the way down here to adopt one of our rescues. Sunday, December 9, 2007 was just one of those special days. Helen and Chris from Calgary had a difficult time deciding just which sweetheart to adopt, but ultimately, Cosmo (now Monty) hit the jackpot! Fleur, Monty's new, Canadian sister, was just reveling in this visit, too. She loved all the new smells, sights and sounds, and was such a genteel, well-behaved lady! Now that the two of them are back home in Calgary, they are romping about in the snow and now LIFE IS PURE FUN. These long distance adoptions could not be accomplished without many folks lending a hand with our adoption protocols. These volunteers have given their sincere commitment to the lives of these rescued hounds. Our gratitude goes out to Laurie Cormier for making this happen and, again, a great, big "Thanks!" always goes to Allison Deis in another part of Canada.
BOULDER
Boulder, who was in our rescue shelter for 11 months, finally has a home to call his own and new "sister" to play with. Janine and Everett, with their basset girl "Tiki" (shown in the picture above) needed to add some excitement to their household. So, after a short ride from Helena, Montana, they all whisked Boulder away to be forever loved and cared for! Note: his first adoptive home was perfect, but Boulder had other ideas when it came to their house cat. Thank you to Janine, Everett, Donna Owens and indeed everyone who made certain this lively, loving boy got a great, new home.
BUFORD
Canadians Jim & Laurie Cormier-Chisholm became Bufords new family. You may remember Buford (Basset on left) was featured on our yearly calendar as our cover boy. Jim & Laurie also became foster failures with Chumley (Basset w/squished face on right), who was lucky enough to find his way to their home. Thank you, Jim and Laurie, for all you do for us. The Bassets thank you, too. Rotties Nikkie and Kirby look like healthly loves, too, and you're all one great family.
SAMMIE
Janet and hubby adopted our little Sammie, who by now is living the good life in Calgary, Canada. Sammie has a bro to play with, too. It is a godsend to find just the right family for each one of our "kids", and this match was perfect. Thank you both for giving this precious little girl a wonderful home.
GEORGE
George was in rescue for over three months, but it was for a good reason. This Yellowstone family came to adopt George, who's a perfect fit for them. George is now just one of the boys who will just love to sit and laze around with his slaves, enjoying a loving home life. When activity time comes, on goes the leash and away they go. Ayla is very anxious to invite George for cozy warm nights sleeping and lots of TLC to make up for being abandoned by his previous owners. Basset Rescue of Montana wants to thank this great family for driving all this way to meet and fall head over heels for George.
SONNY HUSTON
Sonny Huston waited a couple of months for someone to fall in love with him and be home with him daily. Now Sonny will have constant companionship and lots of love from this Missoula, Mt. couple. Their Basset named Buford, passed away and now they are ready to share their home with another. I met Don and Kathy years ago when I used to babysit Buford, and I know how much this couple adores their hounds. Thank you to Don and Kathy for caring, for adopting, and for supporting our shelter.
BUDDY
Life does not get any better than this. What leisure, what comfort, what love I get, and what playtime I have with all the 2 and 4 leggers. Ahhhhhh. Buddy IS HOME AT LAST. Thank you to Cheryl, Scottie, and all the Missoula, Mt. neighborhood, who has fallen in love with Buddy.
ANNABELLE
These photos show the joyous first day at Annabelle’s new home with Blossom and Cookie in Kalispell, Montana. Both kids look like they’re not too sure what to make of the new addition, but everything is great now. Both “kids” are playing happily with each other, and now neither Blossom nor Cookie will be alone. “Grandma” Leslie says, Thank you, Cookie, for giving beautiful Annabelle a new, very loving home!
DAISY A
The McDonald family from E. Helena, Montana adopted this precious, loveable doll. Daisy A (shown here in the middle) has been the “bestest” little girl in her Foster Home at Dee Dee's, and all of us wanted to adopt her! Life cannot not get much better now for Daisy A! Thank you to Melissa for giving Kudos another girlfriend, and BIGGER “THANK YOU’S” go to DONNA ALLEN (AND OTHER KIND SOULS) for bringing this rescue to my attention!
